The 2017 Community Choice Foundation scholarship is open and accepting applications from high school seniors. Here's who should apply for the scholarship, and why.
In 1935, at the home of Arthur and May Jenkins, a few neighbors put five dollars into a bowl that anyone could borrow during their time of need. This bowl and its contents created the foundation for Community Choice Credit Union.
It is with great honor that I can say I am a Community Choice Scholar. I am truly thankful for everything the foundation has done for me. Being a part of this select group has allowed me to feel connected with the community I call home and has allowed me to understand the value of hard work, recognition and what it truly means to Give Big.
Personally, giving big means what you do for your community. Community service has always been a major part of my life. It is more than just volunteering to help out, it’s the extra step of putting others before yourself, the awareness of all the different struggles and problems in our world that people face, and realizing you can do something to enact a change, no matter how small.
Recently I have realized I am more than just a volunteer in my community: I am a student, athlete, friend, employee, and sister who is dedicated to making a change for the better in Michigan. As I embark on my journey at Michigan State University in hopes of becoming a future veterinarian, I will seek every opportunity to immerse myself in clubs, organizations, and study aboard experiences. The great resources at Michigan State will allow me to pursue my interest in gaining hands-on research opportunities, internships, and experiences which will further my education. I will enrich my mind, keeping an open perspective to all aspects of life, and I will always stay determined to achieve my goals because with hard work and motivation anything is possible.
